We began learning about Salish Weave in the spring of 2021. We had a small organising committee of helping teachers, Aboriginal Resource Teachers as well as the TL, Admin and ASW from CQE.
In order to wrap our minds around what this could look like, we created a display with images of the art, small bios of the artists as well as a few possible lesson plans.
We were very thankful for the work shared by educators around the province and accessed the Salish Weave site for initial support and ideas.
We began work in earnest about 2 weeks prior to the arrival of the art and the display went up about 1 week before in order to help build excitement.
In the week prior to the art arriving, we had a staff planning meeting where we discussed how the art would travel through our pods. We are a pod-based school with 9 pods. 18 pieces of art will travel in partners through the pods swapping out every other day.
